MILL START-UP – OCTOBER 2016

The final weeks before start-up of the mill are upon us.

With the assistance of our Chinese contingent (five Chinese staff), minor maintenance is still ongoing and this has afforded us the time to clean the plant so that it is sparkling when we do begin manufacturing.

Lionsteel SA Acquires Mozambique Steel Mill

LionSteel South Africa has, after extensive negotiations with Capital Africa Steel, acquired the steel pipe manufacturing mill Capital Star Steel SA, located in Matola, Mozambique. The acquisition worth in excess of R500 million, involved a comprehensive debt restructuring with a syndication of four Mozambique banks, enabling CAS, the WBHO/Brait subsidiary, to sell 100% of its wholly owned Mozambican business to LionSteel SA.

Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference 2013

With a population of over 110 million people and an abundance of natural resources, especially hydrocarbons, Nigeria has become the 10th largest oil producer in the world, the third largest in Africa and the most prolific oil producer in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Nigerian economy is largely dependent on its oil sector which supplies 95% of its foreign exchange earnings. The upstream oil industry is the single most important sector in the economy.

CAPITAL STAR STEEL ATTENDS MINING INDABA

One of the highlights thus far for Capital Star steel has been attending our first mining Indaba, which took place at the International Conventions Centre in Cape Town.

The conference, which ran from the 4th to the 7th of February 2013, hailed an array of organizations globally. The exhibiting companies hailed from over 30 countries across four continents. The delegates, most of whom are fundamental and key players within the mining sector, ranged from investors, project financiers, bankers, fund managers, analysts, executives and board members from large mining companies and mining service.

Capital Star Steel is implementing and automated product (steel pipe) tracking system using RFID Technology (Radio Frequence Identification Document). This is to provide traceability and tracking of pipe throughout the manufacturing process.
